T.A.M.I. stands for Teenage Awards Music International, which doesn't make that much sense, but it's not important anyway. The whole thing is just a banner under which producer Steve Binder could bring together a whole pile of the most significant rock & pop acts of 1964 (with the notable exception of the Beatles) in front of state-of-the-art (for 1964) videocameras. The roster includes Lesley Gore, the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Chuck Berry, the Supremes, and the Rolling Stones, who had the unenviable task of going on after one of James Brown's finest and most incendiary performances.

"The T.A.M.I. Show" was released in theaters in December of 1964 and then passed into legend. In the 1980s it was shown in Canada on the First Choice Pay TV channel (remember that one?) and Muchmusic used to put it on occasionally (you know, when they still had music). "America's Oldest Teenager" Dick Clark was the driving force behind the film's first release ever on home video and it has been lovingly restored to look even better than it did in the 1960s. --EH
