The Athletic Model Guild was photographer Bob Mizer's response to Playboy. The plan was to photograph men au naturel (or close to it) and accompany that with articles about fitness and nutrition, among other topics (since Playboy is only read for the articles, after all). Unfortunately for Mizer, American censorship laws had other ideas about the right to publish his photos, so for a significant amount of time, AMG was popular reading material outside of its native country.
Representing the best in AMG photos and rare short films, this DVD offers glimpses at the guys who graced the magazine covers and some of their film endeavours. Incredibly obscure and never released until now, the films and photos of AGM offer a keen insight into an organization that has been promoting the male body for more than 60 years. --JA |
