The backroom deals and Senate floor shenanigans that go into confirming a President's nomination for Secretary of State form the basis of this complex and satisfying political thriller by the director of "Anatomy of a Murder".
Henry Fonda plays Robert Leffingwell, the President's nominee, who is subsequently investigated by a Senate committee led by Brig Anderson (Don Murray). Anderson uncovers some uncomfortable facts about the new nominee, and more importantly finds himself the butt of blackmail by people who would prefer Leffingwell didn't get the job.
Peter Bogdanovich has said Advise and Consent is "By far the best political thriller ever made in this country." --EH
